FSU Sustainable

FSU Sustainable What is sustainability? While there are multiple definitions and perspectives regarding sustainability, our program is built upon the original conservation-based definition of sustainable development: development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland Commission, 1987). “Sustainability” is the intersection of three overlapping issues – environmental, economic, and social; also known as the Triple Bottom Line (people, planet, and profit). Sustainability issues encompass facets of stewardship, resources management, and social justice. Sustainability at Florida State University Florida State University is committed to creating the best possible campus sustainability program we can; one that is realistic to the needs and constraints of our institution, transparent in process and reporting, in line with the University’s strategic priorities, and true to the pillars of the triple bottom line. The Sustainable Campus Initiative is rooted in the values of sustainability as a process (not an endpoint), participation & action by our campus community, education, and collaboration. Please explore our Vision, Mission, and Goals for a deeper understanding of our roadmap.
